Welcome! We wanted you to know that My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is more than just fun and games. It's a well-thought-out program designed to contribute to developmental and educational needs. The show's main educational focus is on girls 6 to 8 years old -- but lots of kids from 3 to 11 like the ponies too.
Between the ages 6 and 8, kids are combining skills like reading, writing, and computing in order to accomplish more complex tasks. They're coming to understand how friendships work, and they're grappling with the concept of different communities -- like the ones they operate in at home, at school, and during after-school activities
Why Your Kids Should Watch
As they watch the show, children learn about their own lives through the colorful, four-legged citizens of Equestria. The ponies have very different personalities and behaviors, and most kids identify with at least one of them.Why You Should Watch Together
If you watch the show with your child, you'll see that many episodes help her develop these areas of Interpersonal Skills:
- Awareness and acceptance of personal feelings
- Empathy and management of feelings
- Effective group participation
- Skills for managing conflict
- Valuing honesty, ethics, rules, and codes of behavior.
To a lesser extent, you may also notice that some episodes encourage thinking about History and Social Science issues. These might include:
- Understanding ourselves though our culture and heritage, as individuals and as members of different groups;
- The impact of living things on environments, and vice-versa;
- The nature of communities -- individual and shared responsibilities, respect for others, and respect for the rules and laws of the community.
